CHECKLIST FOR ADMITTING AN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT

Admit Student
Using GWAAP, admit the student.

Provide Award Information

GWAAP will ask you for information about any offer of an assistantship or tuition fellowship you might award the applicant. You may also prepare the INTERNATIONAL GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIP AWARD STATEMENT online and submit the signed copy to the Graduate School. Information on the cost of attendance is available here.
SEVIS Fee
The applicant must pay a one-time $100 SEVIS Fee before the I-20/DS-2019 form can be generated and mailed to the student. The SEVIS fee can be paid through Western Union.
Statement of Finances
The Graduate School will subtract your offer of an assistantship (if any) and any associated tuition fellowship from the cost of attendance and notify the international student of the additional funds the student must provide from personal funds, as required by US regulation, on the Graduate School Official Statement of Finances for 2005 to 2006 or Graduate School Official Statement of Finances for 2006 to 2007.
Admissions Package Mailed to Student
Upon receipt of a satisfactory Graduate School Official Statement of Finances for 2005 to 2006 or Graduate School Official Statement of Finances for 2006 to 2007, and uponreceiving notice that the student has paid the $100 SEVIS fee, the Graduate School will mail an official letter of acceptance to the student and the student's I-20 (Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant F-1 Student Status), which is generated by the Office of International Education. These are air mailed, but can be sent via Federal Express if the accepting department notifies the Office of International Education and provides account information.
Student Visa Appointment
The student contacts the US embassy in his or her home country and schedules a visa appointment, taking the SEVIS number, SEVIS fee receipt, letter of admission, and passport.
Port of Entry
Student arrives in the United States (usually flying to Atlanta) and receives the I-94 form (Arrival-Departure Record)
Orientation
All international students must attend Office of International Education orientation.
Employment
All international students who will be employed at Auburn University (primarily graduate assistantships) will apply for a Social Security card during orientation. Departments will generate the Personnel Action Form (PAF) and Personal Data Form (PDF).
