 Minutes of Alabama Council of Graduate Deans Meeting

on March 3, 2004

at Hill Center, University of Alabama, Birmingham

Members Present : Drs. Stephen McFarland, John Pritchett, Susan Brinson, Allen Stewart, Chandra Reddy, Judd Katz, William Carr, Jean Pugliese, Dianne Barron, Alan Belsches, Esther Lee, Patti Harrison, Charles Nash, James McClintock, Gordon Emslie, Kaye Brown, Terry Roberson, Mary Howard, Mike Moeller, and Joe Wilkins .

The meeting was called to order by the Chairman, Dr. Stephen McFarland at 10 AM. After formal introductions and welcome by the Chair, Dr. David Carter made a presentation on

1. Explorations: An Overview of the New Accreditation Process and Issues and

2. Evaluator Training Workshop .

The presentation was well received and punctuated with a lot of questions and discussions. Dr. Carter encouraged members to sign up as reviewers.

Dr. Bill Carr presented a special plaque honoring Dr. John Pritchett upon his retirement from Graduate Dean and Provosts position of Auburn University. Dr. Pritchett is moving to Florida Atlantic University as its Provost and VP for Academic Affairs.

Dr. Gordon Emslie presented the revised web-voting form for new program review. The revisions include the addition of a No Opinion option to the existing Agree and Disagree options for all questions. Also an Abstain option was added to the Overall Recommendation question to the current options of Approv e and Disapprove . These changes were approved unanimously by the Council members.
